This is a polyester resin and cures water clear. Uncured….this resin has a light green tint. Most resins on the market have a brownish tint to them but this resin is unlike the rest. This resin is best used with the variety of colored fabrics that we offer. The colored appearance of the fabric will stay bright and vibrant like it should. UV protection is also added to this resin to prevent the damaging effects of the sun. This resin was created for the surfboard industry and made to withstand hours of direct sunlight. We have produced panels using this resin and a few years later, they are in as good of condition as they were when we originally produced them. This resin is rated to withstand 180° F/82.2° C.

This item is available in Gallons or at a discount in cases of 4.

This resin is designed to build multiple layers of fabric without the need for surface prep or sanding. Silmar 249A is air-inhibited and cures to a tacky finish which may leave the surface “gummy” for sanding. For this reason, it should not be used as a topcoat unless preventative measures are taken to remove air from the resin’s surface, such as but not limited to, a vacuum bag or wax additive being used in the process.”

Sanding Aid can also be used with this resin. This allows for a great improvement in the ease of sanding the material.

The appropriate amount of Hardener / Catalyst is included (MEKP DDM-9 or Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide). Mixing instructions and measuring device is included as well.

The item has a shelf life of approximately four months. To ensure crystal clear results and proper curing, please make sure to use the resin shortly after purchase.

This item is in stock but due to short shelf life, this product may be shipped direct from the manufacturer. This may add 1-3 business days to lead time.

This item is flammable and can only be shipped by ground. If you paid for expedited shipping, we will refund you the difference for it to be shipped by ground.

Please Note: Hardener / Catalyst has a 12 month shelf-life.
